Artist, educator and drag performer
MAY 2019 - AUG 2022
SKETCHBOOK ART
This sketchbook begins with Pride celebrations, Summer 2019. My involvement included entertaining as a drag performer, events host and drag queen story time reader in Vancouver, Richmond and Victoria, British Columbia. This is a celebration of LGBTQ+ pride and queer life. This is followed by travel journaling and photography on the road in Thailand. During this December 2019 adventure, I visited in and around Bangkok and Sukhothai.
When I travel, I always learn directly from local artists for inspiration and cultural understanding. Local colours, patterns and symbolism are celebrated and intertwined with my photography. I learned from local artists at galleries and cultural events. Travel guides at historical sites, temples and religious monuments shared a wealth of information and inspired my deep appreciation.
Next is documented Pride 2020 and 2021 celebrations. My involvement included entertaining as a drag performer, event host and drag queen story time reader in Vancouver, Richmond, Gibsons, New Westminster and Squamish, British Columbia.
This sketchbook continues with an excusion to Peru, August 2021. I journeyed through Lima, Arequipa, Cusco, Machu Picchu, Chinchero, Saqsayhuman, Ollantaytambo, Puno and Lake Titicaca. Inspiration came from local iconography such as art, dance, costumes, and the Nazca Lines are celebrated through collage and acrylic paintings to accompany my photography. Tickets, coins, brochures, maps and other items collected throughout Peru also enrich the pages of this scrapbook.
I hope that this sketchbook can inspire others in their travel journaling and scrapbooking ideas.
